Without objection, the Senate recessed at 10:44 a.m. After Recess Joint Session in the House Speaker Porter called the House to order and in accordance with Uniform Rule 51 turned the gavel over to President Pearce, who called the Joint Session to order at 11:07 a.m. The purpose of the Joint Session was to hear an address by the Honorable Warren Matthews, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and to consider the Governors appointment of Leo Keeler to the Board of Game. President Pearce appointed Representative Kott and Senator Taylor to escort Chief Justice Matthews to the Joint Session. 2000-03-08 Senate Journal Page 2564 The Senate Sergeant at Arms, Ian Fisk, announced Chief Justice Matthews entrance to the House Chamber. The Honorable Warren Matthews was escorted to the rostrum and introduced by President Pearce. Chief Justice Matthews delivered his address. This address appears in House and Senate Joint Journal Supplement No.13. The Honorable Warren Matthews received a standing ovation and was escorted from the chamber by Senator Taylor and Representative Kott. President Pearce announced the Joint Session would consider the Governors appointment as follows: Board of Game Leo Keeler - Anchorage President Pearce called the Joint Session. The call was satisfied. Senator Mackie moved that Leo Keeler be confirmed to the Board of Game. Objections were heard. Representative Davies rose to a point of order stating the members debate was straying from the issue before the Joint Session. President Pearce cautioned members to proceed in order.
