Senators Adams, Pearce were excused from a call of the Senate. Senators Halford, Parnell were absent. Senator Leman, Acting Majority Leader, moved and asked unanimous consent that Senator Halford be excused from a call of the Senate due to weather, and Senator Parnell be excused from a call of the Senate due to illness. Without objection, Senators Halford, Parnell were excused. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Reverend Johnny Reimer of the Douglas Island Bible Church. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. O Sovereign Lord, we thank You today for Your patience with us. We live in a world where hate and aggression seem to have the upper hand. Help us to remember that You ultimately are in control. We long for the day when nations and peoples will acknowledge You for Who You really are, for only then will it be possible for peace to reign in our world. While we wait for that day we pray for courage and strength to go on. We pray for the men and women in uniform, stationed in various parts of this world, seeking to establish and keep a semblance of peace. We pray for their safety. 2195 2000-02-04 Senate Journal Page 2196 As You, O Lord, demonstrate Your patience with us, teach us how to exhibit patience with one another, especially with those who may not fully agree with us. Give us an openness to the opinions of others, and a respect for their convictions. Keep us from pursuing merely selfish goals and ambitions to the neglect of the needs of others. Give us insight to see the larger picture, to broaden our perspectives. Grant us courage to sacrifice minor issues to accomplish major goals without compromising truth and righteousness. We need, O Lord, daily wisdom and direction. We seek Your counsel today, through Christ our Lord. Amen. Senator Miller led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance.
