The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Johnny Reimer of the Douglas Island Bible Church. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Our God and Heavenly Father, in this our time of need, we come before You to admit our need and seek Your wisdom and mercy. We have a recurring tendency to be selfish in our pursuits, unduly proud of our accomplishments, and unreasonably stubborn in wanting our own way. We need Your wisdom to make the right decisions now because we do not know what tomorrow may bring, and the lives of many will be affected. We need Your mercy, grace and forgiveness because in spite of our attempts otherwise, we often fail miserably. We further ask for forgiveness and for strength because all too often the downward pull to evil is too strong for us to resist in ourselves. Now grant us courage to face the issues before us today. Give us wisdom to know the direction we are to go and the right choices we need to make. Increase our trust and confidence in You for You are our God. Through Christ our Savior and Lord, Amen. 255 1999-02-16 Senate Journal Page 0256 Senator Ward led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance.
