Senator Ward was excused from a call of the Senate. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Leon Thompson of the Chapel by the Lake Church. Senator Phillips moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Dear God, in this moment we call upon Your presence to be in the midst of this place. We come from various geographic, cultural, and spiritual backgrounds and have been called by the people of this great land to be a decision making body. We thank You for these Senators who have been called by the people. We thank You for the time and energy they spend on behalf of those whom they represent. Help them to feel the weight of responsibility and at the same time undergird them with strength and power. Give guidance, direction and support to the Senate this day. Help the Senate to work with energy, intelligence, imagination and love throughout this session. Give patience when needed, help kindness to prevail, create attentive listening ears and may boldness with integrity be the order of the day. 133 1999-02-02 Senate Journal Page 0134 As those in these chambers are away from home and family we ask that You would keep their families safe and secure. Give safety to those here when they travel. When this day is over following long meetings, telephone conversations, messages received and returned, dialogue with coworkers, and the reading of endless reports may each person here be able to say, Thank You God for being in the midst of all I have done. We pray this to the One Who created us and sustains us through all of life. Amen. Senator Adams led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Certification Senator Mackie moved and asked unanimous consent that the journal for the fourteenth legislative day, Senate Journal Supplement No. 1 and Senate and House Joint Journal Supplement No. 3 be approved as certified by the Secretary.
