Representatives Croft, Masek, Moses, Mulder, Sanders, Therriault and Williams were absent and their presence was noted later. The invocation was offered by Pastor Johnny Reimer of the Douglas Island Bible Church. Representative Coghill moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it appears below: Our God and Heavenly Father, We pause today to give You thanks for the grace and the goodness You daily direct toward us. The blessings You bestow on us are greater than can be enumerated. Forgive us where we have carried on as though You did not exist. You have given to us abundantly so that out of our abundance we may give to others who are in desperate need. We acknowledge our great need of Your continued favor, not to do as we please, but to fulfill Your purpose for us while here on earth. We thank You for the privilege of living in a land of freedom. We pray for the leaders of our nation and our state, that they will be given wisdom and that with prudence they will discharge their responsibilities. We pray for the men and women in our armed forces that they will be kept safe. We pray for the many who are suffering because of wars. We 1999-05-19 House Journal Page 1646 pray for those who are persecuted for their religious beliefs or because of the prejudice of others. We pray for those who suffer because of the crimes brought on by sin in our world. We pray that more hearts would open to the love of the Savior of all people. We ask for that measure of love and grace that will lead us to give instead of only taking. We ask that our selfishness would be dissolved in Your love for us which was evidenced by giving Your life for us. As we meet others today, help us to leave them better than we found them. We ask for willingness to open a little more of ourselves to Your love, Your control and Your wisdom. Through Christ, our Lord, Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Foster.
