Representative Kookesh had been previously excused from a call of the House today. Representative Barnes was excused from a call of the House today due to illness. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Reverend Ellen Younker of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Representative Bunde moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it appears below: Let us pray, God of the Above, Below and Within, This day we praise Your name, For all that is Above-- crisp, azure skies and sheltering snow-lined mountains, wild soaring birds, launched from cliffs high, radiant summer sun and haunting fall moon, whirling stars, birthing planets from swirling dust all that is magical and majestic, out there... For all that is Below-- rustic, fleet-footed moose and furry-backed musk ox, wandering hunters, matching their world with courage, whales deep, mothers of ocean contentment, 1999-02-22 House Journal Page 0276 the small, the swarming, the herded, masked in deep quiet or excitement's glare... For all that is Within-- honesty, integrity's burdened neighbor, and generous purpose, life's reason, tears and laughter, sisters to love, and sheltering comfort, shared with marked grace, showered by tolerance and care. Lest we forget the vastness of Your plan, help us to hear in creation Your patient intermingling, help us to see in others a claim of kinship, help us to feel within ourselves a zest to be real. Amen The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Whitaker.
