Gracious Spirit, giver and preserver of life; our hearts are heavy with grief this day, knowing that violence has again breached our lives. We are aware that good surrounds us and we are blessed to live in such a great land, yet we are reminded that there are times when our lives are assaulted by forces which would blot out that good. Assist us in being more persistent and dedicated to preserving the peace and welfare of all people. Sharpen our resolve to help those who suffer and those who are tempted to do ill to others. Ease our grief with time but let us not forget that there are dangers in our world. Gracious Spirit, guide and direct us this day. Amen.
