Senator Ellis was absent. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Chris Grube, Church of the Nazarene. Senator Duncan moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Our Father we cry out for help, we cry out for You to hear us. When we were in distress we sought You, I remembered You O God, and I groaned; I mused, and my spirit grew faint. You kept my eyes from closing; I was too troubled to speak. I thought about the former days, the years of long ago. Will the Lord reject forever? Will He never show His favor again? Then I thought to this I will appeal: I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes I will remember Your miracles long ago. I will meditate on all Your works and consider all Your mighty deeds. Your ways O God are holy. What god is so great as our God? You are the God who performs miracles; You display Your power among the people. With Your mighty arm You redeemed Your people. We, as the Senate and as Alaskans, need the same today O Lord. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. 137 1997-01-27 Senate Journal Page 0138 Senator Sharp led the Senate in the pledge of allegiance.
