Representatives Berkowitz, Elton, Ivan, Kelly, Kott, Kubina, Masek, Ogan, Rokeberg, Sanders, Therriault and Vezey were absent and their presence was noted later. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain Designee, Representative Foster. Representative Martin moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it appears below: "Well, Lord, Here We Are Again We guess that there's still more work to be accomplished this session. Give us all a special portion of faithfulness to our elected and appointed tasks. Pour upon all the members of this House and the other Body the graces of consideration and cooperation. Thank You, O Lord, for the past weekend of rest and renewal. Now, energize us with the strength of that strong man of Galilee, Jesus the Ascended King of Kings. Amen." The House recessed at 12:24 p.m. to allow members of the Senate to enter the House Chamber. AFTER RECESS The Speaker called the House back to order at 12:40 p.m. **The presence of Representatives Berkowitz, Elton, Ivan, Kelly, Kott, Kubina, Masek, Ogan, Rokeberg, Sanders, Therriault and Vezey was noted. MESSAGES FROM THE SENATE HB 257 A message dated June 1, 1998, was received stating the Senate has accepted the invitation to meet in an immediate joint session to consider the Governor's veto of the following: SENATE CS FOR CS FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 257(FIN) "An Act relating to elections, to election officials and election workers, to voter registration, and to candidates for election; and providing for an effective date." JOINT SESSION IN THE HOUSE In accordance with the Uniform Rules, Speaker Phillips turned the gavel over to President Miller who called the joint session to order at 12:41 p.m. The purpose of the joint session was to consider the Governors veto on the following bill: HB 257 VOTING & ELECTIONS A roll call of the Senate showed 20 members present. A roll call of the House showed 40 members present. 1998-06-01 House Journal Page 4035 HB 257 Senator Taylor moved that: SENATE CS FOR CS FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 257(FIN) "An Act relating to elections, to election officials and election workers, to voter registration, and to candidates for election; and providing for an effective date." become law notwithstanding the Governor's veto. Senator Green moved and asked unanimous consent that she be allowed to abstain from voting due to a conflict of interest. Objection was heard, and Senator Green was required to vote. The question being: "Shall SCS CSHB 257(FIN) become law notwithstanding the Governor's veto?" Senator Taylor moved and asked unanimous consent that the joint session adjourn. There being no objection, President Miller adjourned the joint session at 1:18 p.m. The Speaker ordered the House at ease to allow members of the Senate to leave the Chamber. IN THE HOUSE The Speaker called the House back to order at 1:20 p.m. The Speaker stated that, without objection, the House would recess until 1:45 p.m.; and so, the House recessed at 1:21 p.m. AFTER RECESS The Speaker called the House back to order at 1:49 p.m. A second quorum call showed 24 members present. INTRODUCTION OF CITATIONS The following citation was introduced: Commemorating - The Centennial of the Philippines By Representative Austerman; Senator Mackie SPECIAL ORDER OF BUSINESS Representative Austerman moved and asked unanimous consent that the citation, Commemorating - The Centennial of the Philippines, be taken up as a Special Order of Business at this time.
