Senator Taylor was excused from a call of the Senate. Senators Ellis, Lincoln were absent. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor David Horn of the Faith Lutheran Church. Senator Adams moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast. It is not proud, it is not rude. It is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered. It keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. (Paul's letter to the Corinthians.) Lord God, Heavenly King, You loved Your fallen world so much that You could not bear to leave it to its own devices. You loved us by making a great sacrifice and it cost You dearly. Now, here we are on this day of love and we find that we are not possessed of Your wisdom. We find that some of what we thought was love is nothing more than an accommodation with evil and that some of what we thought was a bold stand was simple coldness of heart. 2421 1996-02-14 Senate Journal Page 2422 As our fathers fought the oppressors but brought relief to the vanquished, help us, we pray, to untie todays knots. In Your mercy, grant to all of Your people, and especially to those gathered here, the clarity of thought and heart to see when we ought to fight and withhold, and when we ought to compromise, provide relief and give. Give us wisdom to see which is which and the courage to act when we do see it. In the Name of Your Son. Amen. Senator Donley led the Senate in the pledge of allegiance. The presence of Senator Ellis was noted. CERTIFICATION Senator Halford moved and asked unanimous consent that the journal for the thirty-seventh legislative day be approved as certified by the Secretary.
