Senator Ellis was excused from a call of the Senate. Senators Donley, Frank, Halford, Phillips, Rieger, Sharp, Taylor, Zharoff were absent. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Father Peter Gorges of the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Roman Catholic Church. Senator Duncan led the Senate in the pledge of allegiance. The presence of Senator Zharoff was noted. CERTIFICATION Senator Miller moved and asked unanimous consent that the journals for the fifteenth and sixteenth legislative days be approved as certified by the Secretary. Senator Zharoff moved and asked unanimous consent that today's prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Lord God, You created the heavens and the earth, and everything in between. You gave us this great land of Alaska, with its towering mountains, mighty rivers, and rolling tundra. You filled all of these areas with life and beauty. And, finally, You brought into this land a people who were eager to become part of it. Those people have elected us to represent them in this assembly. Help us to be men and women with the longsighted vision of our rolling tundra.
