Senators Donley, Lincoln, Phillips, Rieger were absent. Senator Frank led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Senator Sharp. The presence of Senator Donley was noted. CERTIFICATION Senator Taylor moved and asked unanimous consent that the journal for the thirty-sixth legislative day be approved as certified by the Secretary. Without objection, it was so ordered. The presence of Senators Phillips, Rieger was noted. RECESS Senator Taylor moved and asked unanimous consent that the Senate stand in recess to the Joint Session. Without objection, the Senate recessed at 10:55 a.m. AFTER RECESS JOINT SESSION IN THE HOUSE Speaker Barnes called the House to order and in accordance with Uniform Rule 51 turned the gavel over to President Halford at 11:01 a.m. 2853 1994-02-15 Senate Journal Page 2854 The purpose of the Joint Session was to hear the Honorable Frank Murkowski, U.S. Senator and to consider the Ombudsman appointment. Senator Taylor moved and asked unanimous consent that the roll call of the Senate be waived and all members be shown as present. Without objection, it was so ordered. Representative Phillips moved and asked unanimous consent that the roll call of the House be waived and all members be shown as present. Without objection, it was so ordered. President Halford introduced Nancy Murkowski, wife of U.S. Senator Murkowski and their niece, Mary Gore. President Halford appointed Senator Sharp and Representative MacLean to escort U.S. Senator Murkowski to the Joint Session. The Senate Sergeant-at-Arms announced Senator Murkowski's entrance to the House Chamber. The Honorable Frank Murkowski was escorted to the rostrum and introduced by President Halford. U.S. Senator Murkowski delivered his address. This address appears in Senate and House Joint Journal Supplement No. 15. Following his address, there was a question and answer period. U.S. Senator Murkowski received a standing ovation and was escorted from the chamber by Representative MacLean and Senator Sharp. OMBUDSMAN SELECTION COMMITTEE Stuart C. Hall Senator Taylor moved that the appointment of Stuart C. Hall be confirmed. Representative Martin objected. Representative Martin moved that the motion be tabled.
