Senators Frank, Jacko and Rieger were absent. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Rev. Larry Olson of the Resurrection Lutheran Church. Senator Adams moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Lord, we thank You for this spectacularly beautiful day here in southeast Alaska. May we never become so burdened that we neglect to see the majesty of Your creation. These men and women who have been elected to the office of Senator have many very weighty responsibilities. We pray the work they are beginning this week would be filled with wisdom, with discernment, with courage, and with compassion. May this state be a better place because of their deliberations this day. In Your Name we ask these things. Amen 51 1993-01-13 Senate Journal Page 0052 Senator Zharoff led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. The presence of Senators Frank, Jacko and Rieger was noted. CERTIFICATION Senator Taylor moved and asked unanimous consent that the journal for the second legislative day be approved as certified by the Secretary. Without objection, it was so ordered. COMMUNICATIONS Memorandum dated January 12, 1993, from David R. Dierdorff, Revisor of Statutes, was received stating: Under the provisions of sec. 8, ch. 56, SLA 1991, the commissioner of fish and game certified to me on December 29, 1992 that the Paint River fish ladder began operation on January 1, 1993. Consequently, secs. 2 - 4, ch. 56, SLA 1991, took effect on January 1, 1993. President Halford referred the memorandum to the Resources Committee. Memorandum dated July 24, 1992, from Pamela Finley, Assistant Revisor of Statutes, was received stating: We have discovered a manifest error in sec. 15, ch. 51, SLA 1992 (HCS CSSB 226(FIN)). In AS 44.88.900(9)(E), as added by sec. 15, the word "for" should be inserted after "or". The omission occurred in the preparation of HCS CSSB 226(FIN). The House Finance Committee requested language that read "or for" in this paragraph, but due to a clerical error, "for" was omitted. Note that "or for" is identical to the language in CSSB 226(RLS)am, which originally passed the Senate. Since ch. 51, SLA 1992 has been printed, please print this in the journal to give notice of our correction made under AS 01.05.031. Thank you. 1993-01-13 Senate Journal Page 0053 INTRODUCTION AND REFERENCE OF SENATE RESOLUTIONS SR 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1 by the Senate Rules Committee, Establishing a Senate Special Committee on Oil and Gas. was read the first time and referred to the Rules Committee.
