Senator Kerttula was absent because of illness. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Rev. Larry Olson of the Resurrection Lutheran Church. Senator Duncan led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. CERTIFICATION Senator Taylor moved and asked unanimous consent that the journal for the first legislative day be approved as certified by the Secretary. Without objection, it was so ordered. Senators Duncan, Adams, Zharoff, Donley, Lincoln, Little, Ellis and Salo offered Amendment No. 1 : Finance Committee, delete: Senator Kelly and Senator Sharp, add: Senator Adams and Senator Zharoff Senator Duncan moved for the adoption of Amendment No. 1. Senators Taylor and Pearce objected. The question being: "Shall Amendment No. 1 be adopted?" RECESS Senator Taylor moved and asked unanimous consent that the Senate recess to the Joint Session at 7:55 p.m. Without objection, the Senate recessed at 12:01 p.m. AFTER RECESS JOINT SESSION IN THE HOUSE Speaker Barnes called the House to order and in accordance with Uniform Rule 51 turned the gavel over to President Halford at 7:57 p.m. The purpose of the Joint Session was to hear the Honorable Walter J. Hickel, Governor of Alaska, deliver his State of the State address Senator Taylor moved and asked unanimous consent that the roll call of the Senate be waived and all members be shown as present. The Senate Sergeant-at-Arms announced the Governor's entrance into the House Chamber. The Honorable Walter J. Hickel was escorted to the rostrum and introduced by President Halford. Governor Hickel delivered the State of the State address. This address appears in Senate and House Joint Journal Supplement No. 1, to be published January 13, 1993. Following his address, the Governor received a standing ovation and was escorted from the chamber by Senator Miller and Representative Foster. Senator Taylor moved and asked unanimous consent that the Joint Session stand in adjournment.
