There being no objection, it appears below: "O God, our eternal Father - We bring our thanksgiving for the abundant blessings that flow from Your hand, expressive of Your love and concern for the people of Alaska. We simply ask that You make provision for their daily needs, and we have the assurance that You will do that. In this assembly of legislators, we especially ask that You might grant wisdom and breadth of vision to all who deliberate on the affairs of this state. As the words of the Bible state, `If any man lack wisdom, let him ask of the Lord'. 1 1994-03-16 House Journal Page 2822 We pray also that You will quicken their minds by Your truth, and may their decisions be based on justice and equity for all. May no personal prejudice or narrowmindedness influence their judgment. Alaska is a great land over which these leaders have responsibility for the preservation and the conservation of its beauty and resources, for its administration and governments, for the well-being of its people. May these leaders apply their gifts and abilities to this task with accountability and integrity. We make this prayer in the matchless name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen." House Finance Capital 519 2:00 p.m., 3/16 Committee meeting TIME CHANGE (HB 361, HB 505) SPECIAL ORDER OF BUSINESS The following poem was read by Representative Foster in honor of the 1994 Iditarod Sled Dog Race: "Iditarod '94 This was Martin Buser's race, Though others led the first half, The second half . . . he set the pace. 1994-03-16 House Journal Page 2854 As Jeff King said in Ruby, `Buser's still the one to beat.' The Nineties have been his years. His to taste the victory sweet. The race start planned for Anchorage, bears out all of Murphy's laws. If you plan for too little snow, too much snow, it's what you'll cause. Still it was snow-barron tussocks, that laid claim to Farewell Burn. With the treacherous, icy Gorge, following close behind, in turn. Both were hard on equipment. In both there were lessons to learn. Olesen lead the race at Cripple. Mackey took the Ruby prize, None stopped at Buser's fire, to his dismay and surprise. But from here the race was Buser's. Let's ponder where the future lies. With faster dogs and lighter sleds, and all sorts of high-tech gear. A sail may not make a boat, and wheels don't make a sled, I hear. One wonders where they're headed, on a sled with bicycle seat, For when it comes to innovation, Buser's still awfully hard to beat. A tribute to Martin Buser! Third to win a second race! To lead dogs Dave and K-2, who set the blistering pace! Third straight record time to Nome. When you run the race again, Instead of 13 hours and ten days, do you think you can make it in ten?" 1994-03-16 House Journal Page 2855 ADJOURNMENT Representative Phillips moved and asked unanimous consent that the House adjourn until 10:00 a.m., March 18, 1994.
