Representatives Brice, Davies, B.Davis, Hoffman, Mulder and Sitton had been previously excused from a call of the House today. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor David Horn of the Faith Lutheran Church. Representative Bunde moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it appears below: "O Almighty God, Dearest Heavenly Father, We give You thanks most humble and hearty for the blessing of a new day in which to serve You and our neighbor in wholeness of body and mind. As a citizen I and the other assistants gathered here make bold to intercede with You for these, our representatives in government. You have established in our midst law-making powers dedicated to the upholding of both order and liberty, not an easy task for them. We all ask this of You, that You 1 1994-02-14 House Journal Page 2366 bless and preserve our form of government in state and nation. Grant that our legislators may always be mindful of the needs of all their constituents. Give them the great wisdom needed to distinguish between needs and wants. On this day when love in some form is everywhere, we are reminded by Your Word that the love You are looking for is selfless, always seeking the good of others, more ready to give than to receive; it would make us servants of one another. Grant that each of these public servants gathered here would be guided to serve unselfishly the common good of the people. These things we ask are impossible for us to accomplish on our own, but nothing is impossible for You. Grant them by Your Holy Spirit, in the Name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen." The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Moses.
