Representatives Brice, Brown, Finkelstein, Foster, Grussendorf, Hanley, Hoffman, Larson, MacLean, Martin, Navarre, Nordlund, Parnell and Therriault were absent. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Major Ray Gilman of the Salvation Army Church. Representative Sanders moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it appears below: "Our Father, God. What a fortunate people we are to live in a country that is so good to its people, and yet we are so prone to taking it for granted and spend so much time complaining, it would appear that we are ungrateful. Forgive us. Saturate us with a deep zeal to build on the positive this day and eliminate the negative feeling that could develop with this extended session of the legislature. 1 1993-05-06 House Journal Page 1652 We ask that Your Spirit be upon this body of people today, and guide them in the decisions and recommendations that they are called upon to make. The strength in our government comes from the diversity of each person's background, interests, cultures, and concerns - intertwined with the purpose to serve and make Alaska a safe, healthy and productive place to live and work. The decisions that are made here now not only affect those in this room, but spread throughout this state and even into the world. Let us not take our responsibility lightly, indifferently or callously - for our children, and our children's children may have to harvest what is sown within these days. Grant the wisdom of Solomon, the patience of Job, and loyalty of King David to each member of this House as they collectively work to improve the quality of Alaskans' livelihood. When all is said, may there be a united voice to do what is right, good and pleasing in Your sight. These special requests, we ask in Your Holy Name." The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Sanders.
