Representatives Brice, Brown, Davies, Grussendorf, Hoffman, Olberg, Sitton, Ulmer and Williams had been previously excused from a call of the House today. Representative Davidson was excused due to illness. Representatives Finkelstein, Navarre and Nordlund were absent. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Chris Grube of the Church of the Nazarene. Representative Hudson moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it appears below: "Our Father, we thank You for the memory of this Holy week. We thank You for the misery and heartache You experienced so that we might be free from the law of sin. We read of Your triumphal entry into Jerusalem. No one expected the King of Kings to be riding a donkey. How foolish that sounds to the world. But You said 'It was by the foolishness of preaching that some men might be saved.' We read of that horrible crucifixion upon an old rugged cross. A symbol of suffering and shame. We thank You for going to the cross for us. It was us who put You there and in spite 1 1993-04-08 House Journal Page 1100 of who we are You loved us anyway. You did not force us to sign a promissory note that we would return Your love. But You made us free moral agents to chose our own path. Thank You for that ultimate sacrifice. We also read of Your resurrection from the dead. You conquered death, overcame the grave, defeated the evil one. The tomb is empty. Praise Your Holy name!" May the truth of Easter be imbedded in the hearts of these men and women here today. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen!" The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Martin.
