Representative B.Davis had been previously excused from a call of the House today. Representative Menard had been previously excused from a call of the House until plane time today and arrived in the Chamber later. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Reverend James Airey of the Northern Light United Church. Representative Hudson moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it appears below: "God of all ages and all peoples, we raise our thoughts to You; we lay our concerns before You; we seek Your guidance and the harmonizing of Your Spirit in our midst. Though this body deals with matters that seem mundane, we realize they are matters that affect people's lives, matters that have to do with safety and health, employment and economic conditions, with wealth and poverty, with environment and peoples' needs and rights. They are issues that bring forth strong feelings - even at times 'us' against 'them' feelings. 1 1993-01-20 House Journal Page 0108 We pray, O Lord, that wisdom and concern for the welfare of others will guide these legislators in the paths of righteousness and down highways that will lead to justice and the fulfillment of human need, for the sake of all those lives that will be touched by the deliberations of these elected officials. Amen." The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Sitton.
