Representative Navarre was absent. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Reverend Herbert McMurtry of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Representative Hudson moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it appears below: "Almighty God, we give You thanks for the responsibilities of this day. Not many are elected to public office. Not many have work that is important, creative, dynamic, meaningful and dramatic. Few indeed have a hand in shaping the future. We thank You for these blessings. There being no objection, the House recessed at 10:23 a.m. AFTER RECESS JOINT SESSION IN THE HOUSE Speaker Barnes called the House to order and, in accordance with the Uniform Rules, turned the gavel over to President Halford who called the joint session to order at 7:56 p.m. 1993-01-14 House Journal Page 0061 The purpose of the joint session was to hear the State of the Budget Address by the Honorable Walter J. Hickel, Governor of Alaska. Senator Taylor moved and asked unanimous consent that the roll call of the Senate be waived and all members be shown as present. There being no objection, it was so ordered. Representative Phillips moved and asked unanimous consent that the roll call of the House be waived and all members be shown as present. There being no objection, it was so ordered. President Halford introduced Lieutenant Governor John "Jack" Coghill. President Halford appointed Representative Ulmer and Senator Duncan to escort the Governor to the joint session. The Senate Sergeant-at-Arms announced the Governor's entrance into the House Chamber. Governor Hickel was escorted to the rostrum and welcomed by President Halford. Governor Hickel's State of the Budget Address appears in House & Senate Joint Journal Supplement No. 2. Governor Hickel received a standing ovation and was escorted from the Chamber by Senator Duncan and Representative Ulmer. Senator Taylor moved and asked unanimous consent that the joint session adjourn. There being no objection, President Halford adjourned the joint session at 8:24 p.m. The Speaker ordered the House at ease to allow members of the Senate to leave the Chamber.
