Without objection, Senator Gray-Jackson was excused. Senator Wilson moved and asked unanimous consent to take up the following Sense of the Senate: Sense of the Senate It is the Sense of the Senate that the proposed federal mandate requiring tens of millions of private sector employees, health care workers, and federal contractors to be vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus infringes upon Americans' ability to make individual decisions about their personal health and well- being. Evidence and research show that vaccines and antibodies are effective against Covid-19. Alaskans should speak to their healthcare providers and discuss the merits of the vaccine based on their personal healthcare needs. The Senate recognizes that decisions made locally- closer to the people are better able to meet the unique contextual needs of specific communities and regions and stands firm in its conviction that states should have the authority and ability to craft their own responses to the coronavirus pandemic. 2021-09-14 Senate Journal Page 1466 Further, this current exercise in Federal Over-Reach diminishes Alaska's relationship with the Federal government, further sharpens the divisions across our great country, and has a practical effect of impeding efforts to increase the uptake of the vaccine. The Senate supports the Governor's efforts to put the Biden Administration on notice that Alaska will militate against any restrictions to the autonomy of Americans. Senator Wilson moved and asked unanimous consent the Senate adopt the Sense of the Senate. Senator Kawasaki moved and asked unanimous consent the Sense of the Senate be referred to the Health and Social Services Committee. Objections were heard.
