Madame Speaker, members, I offer the following prayer with the deepest respect to the faith traditions of all Alaskans: Heavenly Father, 1st Timothy tells us, I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. Lord God, I come before you with a humble and grateful heart. I ask you to lift up all of my colleagues in the Alaska state house. Please give us wisdom on the difficult issues we are discussing and deciding on behalf of all Alaskans. 2022-04-29 House Journal Page 2700 I ask that each of us submit ourselves to you, Father, the ultimate authority in each of our lives. Help us to remember rights are not granted by government, they are given by you. I pray we would use government to help secure peaceful and quiet living in our communities while respecting the proper role of your institutions. We know we are all subject to fall short, so I ask for an extra measure of humbleness for each of us to know wisdom only comes from you, Lord. Please protect and strengthen our families, especially while we're separated from them in execution of our duties. I pray for all of Alaska's elected and appointed officials who join us leading this state, that we will seek your face and hear your voice. We ask all this in Jesus' name. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Hopkins.
