Full Journal pdf2019-07-09 Senate Journal Page 1343 SENATE JOURNAL ALASKA STATE LEGISLATURE THIRTY-FIRST LEGISLATURE SECOND SPECIAL SESSION Juneau, Alaska Tuesday July 9, 2019 Second Day Pursuant to adjournment the Senate was called to order by President Giessel at 11:03 a.m. The roll showed fourteen members present. Senators Hughes, Micciche, Wilson were excused from a call of the Senate. Senators Costello, Reinbold, Shower were absent. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Senator Coghill. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Almighty God, My Father, you are righteous, just, gracious and full of loving kindness. We come before you today with heavy hearts because we are divided in many ways in this Senate and in our government. We ask for your guidance and help in repairing the relationships among us while we search for answers we can agree upon. Each of us face our own testing both emotionally and relationally as we serve our people and work with each other; I request your blessing upon us as a body and each senator here in Juneau and those not present with us. Our responsibilities are open for all to see, they are complex and laden with varied and strong opinions that cause us to divide into different camps; our 2019-07-09 Senate Journal Page 1344 Alaska is one state that needs us to come together for solutions. Please give us your guidance by your gracious hand through your Holy Spirit. I pray in the name of my Savior, Jesus Christ the Lord. Amen. Senator Birch led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Certification Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent the journal for the first legislative day of the second special session be approved as certified by the Secretary. Without objection, it was so ordered. Messages from the House Message dated July 8 was read stating the House passed and transmitted for consideration: First Reading and Reference of House Resolutions HCR 201 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 201 BY THE HOUSE RULES COMMITTEE, Authorizing the House of Representatives and the Senate to recess for a period of more than three days. was read the first time and was before the Senate on final passage. The question being: "Shall HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 201 Authorizing the House of Representatives and the Senate to recess for a period of more than three days, pass the Senate?" The roll was taken with the following result: 2019-07-09 Senate Journal Page 1345 HCR 201 Final Passage YEAS: 14 NAYS: 0 EXCUSED: 3 ABSENT: 3 Yeas: Begich, Birch, Bishop, Coghill, Giessel, Gray-Jackson, Hoffman, Kawasaki, Kiehl, Olson, Stedman, Stevens, von Imhof, Wielechowski Excused: Hughes, Micciche, Wilson Absent: Costello, Reinbold, Shower and so, HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 201 passed the Senate, was signed by the President and Secretary and returned to the House. Adjournment Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent the Senate stand in adjournment until 11:00 a.m., July 10, 2019.
