The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Brian Ewing, Calvary Fellowship. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Lord Jesus, your willing servants got into a boat and set out. They had a solid mission, a clear objective, a good boat and solid oars. They had the experience and expertise to get them to their destination across a calm sea. What they did not expect was a suddenly sloppy sea, an opposing wind and to spend the next 8 hours in the middle of the night “tortured at the oars making only three miles.” Lord, this seems like a metaphor for our lives and work. Sometimes it is a delight and we are heroes because we just fed a thousand hungry mouths. Then in some strange juxtaposition we find ourselves grinding away in the unthankful darkness tormented by the exhausting labor and lack of measurable progress. 2019-05-01 Senate Journal Page 0966 Lord it was into just that scenario that you showed up all unexpected walking on the water and in a classic understatement the record says, “they were glad to take him into the boat.” Lord, we are struggling at the oars trying to make real progress. Would you come to us in some unexpected way today and over these next few days. And may we be quick to invite you into our boat. You are not a meddling outsider but the only one who can truly master every life struggle when once we invite you into the equation. Lord, in Jesus’ name I ask this for myself and for this body of men and women who truly desire to make a change for good in this state. Amen. Senator Olson led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Certification Senator Costello moved and asked unanimous consent the journal for the one hundred sixth legislative day be approved as certified by the Secretary. Without objection, it was so ordered.
