Representative Thompson moved and asked unanimous consent that Representatives Merrick, Neuman, Rasmussen, and Rauscher be excused from a call of the House today. There being no objection, it was so ordered. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Representative Josephson. Representative Drummond moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it was so ordered. With the deepest respect for all religious faiths, I offer the following prayer: Prayers from the Missouri Synod of the Lutheran Church of America: "Prayers for the Community" Watcher and Keeper of Israel: Attend your servants who enforce the rule, who serve the sick, who keep the store, who teach the young, who labor at their craft, who minister your word. 2020-03-28 House Journal Page 2160 Preserve our community from recession and depression, from epidemic and contagion, from misrule and disharmony, from fallout and pollution, from drought and flood, from fire and holocaust. For Those Who Work in the Medical Arts: We come before you now, O God, with the knowledge that you have created us and are also able to restore us. Because you are the great physician, we pray for those whom you use to perform your works of healing. We rejoice that your spirit leads men and women to become doctors, nurses, dentists, research scientists, medical technicians, orderlies, and hospital staff members. We thank and praise you for the miracles you perform through them. Dear God, keep our minds open to new truths concerning the cause and cure of disease. Help us to realize that our talents and knowledge are gifts from you, to be used to serve all men. Most of all, we ask you to fill the hearts of medical staff people everywhere with your love, your patience, and your compassion. And, finally from Second Chronicles, Chapter 6, Verse 42, When famine or plague comes to the land, or blight of mildew, locusts or grasshoppers, or when enemies besiege them in any of their cities, whatever disaster or disease may come, and when a prayer or plea is made by any of your people Israel— each one aware of his afflictions and pains, and spreading out his hands toward this temple—then hear from heaven, your dwelling place. Forgive, and deal with each man according to all he does, since you know his heart (for you alone know the hearts of men), so that they will fear you and walk in your ways all the time they live in the land you gave our fathers. And with these prayers, we say Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Hannan.
