With deepest respect to the religious beliefs of all, I offer this prayer: Almighty God, this morning we acknowledge that you are all powerful, always good, always faithful, and that your love endures forever. Lord, you are our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea. You have seen our country through great adversity, danger, and war. It is your divine protection we have always turned to 2020-03-17 House Journal Page 1900 in our desperate hour, collectively acknowledging our nation's motto, "In God we trust." And truly, Lord, the memory of your mercy brings us to our knees. We pray for an end to the spread of the coronavirus in Alaska and our nation. We know this virus did not take you by surprise and that you are still governing and sustaining the world. We pray for your healing mercy and that you would graciously bring this pandemic to an end. And we pray for healing for all those affected by the virus. We pray for our government leaders and all those in positions of authority as we make decisions related to public health and safety, and we pray for a spirit of unity as we work together to protect your people. We pray for our church leaders for the difficult decisions related to public worship and the safety of their members that pastors, priests, and spiritual leaders will have wisdom to faithfully shepherd their congregations even if they are unable to physically gather. Lord, we pray that our hearts would be led by mercy and that we would love our neighbors well during this time. We pray for the vulnerable, the elderly, and for those who are immunocompromised and especially at risk. We pray for the many individuals and businesses facing financial hardship. We pray for honest reporting in the news media, that no fear would be stoked where it is unwarranted. Finally, Lord, we pray for a personal and national posture of trust. Your word tells us that you have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. We pray for enduring faith during this season of heightened fear, anxiety, and confusion. Lord, thank you for the strength that we can possess because of the hope you have given us in your son. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Tuck. 2020-03-17 House Journal Page 1901 CERTIFICATION OF THE JOURNAL Representative Thompson moved and asked unanimous consent that the journal for the 56th legislative day be approved as certified by the Chief Clerk.
