Representative Rasmussen had been excused from a call of the House today. Representative Thompson moved and asked unanimous consent that Representative Neuman be excused from a call of the House today. There being no objection, it was so ordered. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Student Rabbi Jeff Dreifus of Congregation Sukkat Shalom. Representative Shaw moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it was so ordered. With the deepest respect for the religious beliefs of all Alaskans, I offer the following prayer: Yesterday, Jews observed the holiday of Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. The Nazis and their collaborators killed six million Jews, 1.5 million of them children. If you took a moment of silence for each Jew killed, you would have to stay silent for 11 years. But we must not stay silent. Every year on Yom HaShoah, we proclaim the words "Never Again." Never again shall people be murdered, simply because they are Jews. But just last week, a young man filled with hate shot four people in a California synagogue, only six 2019-05-03 House Journal Page 0788 months after 11 Jews were massacred in a Pittsburgh synagogue. The Holocaust, the largest genocide ever perpetrated, ended 74 years ago. But the scourge of hate still lingers. We pray for the day to be near, when all hate is banished from the earth. We pray for the strength and the courage to stand up to hate in all its forms and against all peoples. And once more, we commit ourselves to the words, "Never Again." Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Lincoln. CERTIFICATION OF THE JOURNAL Representative Thompson moved and asked unanimous consent that the journal for the 108th legislative day be approved as certified by the Chief Clerk. There being no objection, it was so ordered.
