Full Journal pdf2018-02-22 Senate Journal Page 2095 SENATE JOURNAL ALASKA STATE LEGISLATURE THIRTIETH LEGISLATURE SECOND SESSION Juneau, Alaska Thursday February 22, 2018 Thirty-eighth Day Pursuant to adjournment the Senate was called to order by President Kelly at 10:51 a.m. The roll showed seventeen members present. Senator Wielechowski was excused from a call of the Senate. Senator Costello was absent. The seat from District E was vacant. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Michelle Hale, Council Member of the Juneau Shambhala Center. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. The Way of the Bodhisattva May I be a guard for those who are protectorless, And a guide for those who journey on the road. For those who wish to go across the water, May I be a boat, a raft, a bridge. May I be an isle for those who yearn for landfall, And a lamp for those who long for light; For those who need a resting place, a bed; For all who need a servant, may I be their slave. Senator Hughes led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. 2018-02-22 Senate Journal Page 2096 Certification Senator Micciche moved and asked unanimous consent that the journal for the thirty-seventh legislative day be approved as certified by the Secretary. Without objection, it was so ordered. Recess Senator Micciche moved and asked unanimous consent the Senate stand in recess to the Joint Session. Without objection, the Senate recessed at 10:54 a.m. After Recess Joint Session in the House The presence of Senator Costello was noted. Speaker Edgmon called the House to order and in accordance with Uniform Rule 51 turned the gavel over to President Kelly, who called the Joint Session to order at 11:04 a.m. The purpose of the Joint Session was to hear an address by the Honorable Lisa Murkowski, U.S. Senator. Senator Micciche moved and asked unanimous consent that the roll call of the Senate be waived and all members be shown as present. Without objection, it was so ordered. Representative Tuck moved and asked unanimous consent that the roll call of the House be waived and all members be shown as present. Without objection, it was so ordered. President Kelly appointed Representative Chenault and Senator Gardner to escort Senator Murkowski to the Joint Session. The Senate Sergeant-at-Arms, Grace Ellsworth, announced the Honorable Lisa Murkowski's entrance to the House Chamber. 2018-02-22 Senate Journal Page 2097 Senator Murkowski was escorted to the rostrum and welcomed by President Kelly. The Honorable Lisa Murkowski delivered her address. This address appears in Senate and House Joint Journal Supplement No. 16. Following her address, there was a question and answer period. Senator Murkowski received a standing ovation and was escorted from the chamber by Senator Gardner and Representative Chenault. Senator Micciche moved and asked unanimous consent that the Joint Session stand in adjournment. Without objection, President Kelly adjourned the Joint Session at 12:02 p.m. After Recess In the Senate The Senate reconvened at 12:10 p.m. Communications Appointment Confirmation Letter dated February 22 to Governor Bill Walker from the Senate Republicans was read stating: This morning the Senate Republicans met to consider your appointment of Mike Shower to fill the vacant seat in Senate District E. We are pleased to report that he has been confirmed as the state Senator for District E.
