For this morning's prayer, with respect to all religions and faiths, I'd like to offer these words from Pope Francis who delivered this homily at the Vatican when he spoke of those who Matthew calls "the least of these": 2018-05-04 House Journal Page 3570 ….From the first moments of their lives, many children are rejected, abandoned, and robbed of their childhood and future. There are those who dare to say, as if to justify themselves, that it was a mistake to bring these children into the world. … Let's not unload our faults onto the children. Children are never a "mistake". Their hunger is not a mistake, nor is their poverty, their vulnerability, their abandonment - so many children abandoned on the streets - and neither is their … helplessness.. If anything, these should be reasons to love them all the more, with greater generosity. … Those who have the task of governing, of educating, but I would say all adults, we are responsible for children and for doing what we can to change this situation. I am referring to "the passion" of children…. In all major religions, we are taught to reach out to others, the least of these, to perform the good deed of a mitzvah. Let us celebrate this common bond. With these words, we thank our Maker and say, Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Kreiss-Tomkins.
