Representative Spohnholz had been excused from a call of the House today. There was one vacancy. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Michelle Hale, Council Member of the Juneau Shambhala Center. Representative Ortiz moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it was so ordered. Good morning. After the glorious weather of the past few days, we have returned to a cloudy Juneau sky. The clouds and snow – at least it's not raining! – make me think of our own human nature. We all mess up so often, and sometimes quite spectacularly, that we can tend to have a gloomy picture of human nature and think that at base we are fundamentally flawed. In Shambhala, though, this is not how we see things. We believe that humans, and all beings, have at their core a basic and fundamental goodness, as pure as the earth revolving around the sun, as a freshly fallen snow. Sometimes our actions and thoughts obscure this fundamental goodness, but they don't remove it, only cover it temporarily. 2018-03-07 House Journal Page 2622 Here on Earth with the cloud cover over us, we can forget that above those clouds that sun shines brilliantly, always brilliant. So too, our fundamental goodness is here with us, always. May we see this goodness in ourselves and others as we journey through our day. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Kreiss-Tomkins. CERTIFICATION OF THE JOURNAL Representative Tuck moved and asked unanimous consent that the journal for the 44th, 45th, 49th, and 50th legislative days be approved as certified by the Chief Clerk. There being no objection, it was so ordered.
