The reward is the deed itself. The great Jewish scholar Maimonides stated of the teaching in the Old Testament, the reward is the deed itself, and that our responsibility is to do good for others. The Dalai Lama said it more simply: Our prime purpose in this life is to help others, and if you can't help them don't hurt them. 2017-04-24 House Journal Page 1198 And in Matthew we are taught how we are all judged. It reads: Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.' In the spirit of mutual respect and with our heads turned to those who need our help, Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Gara.
