Representative Neuman had been excused from a call of the House today. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, (Major) Kirk Thorsteinson of the Alaska Army National Guard. Representative Wilson moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it was so ordered. Boom! My name is Kirk Thorsteinson and as a traditional member of the Alaska Army National Guard it is a privilege to be here on behalf of the Adjutant General and Commissioner of Alaska's Department of Military and Veterans' Affairs, Brigadier General Lauri Hummel. In deepest respect for the religious beliefs of each person here, I invite you into a time of prayer and reflection. Let us pray. Almighty God, I invite your presence with us as the members of this House consider how best to enact laws and appropriate money necessary to operate Alaska's government. Please bless their time in Juneau and may they, their families, and their staff be welcomed here and treated well. Gracious God, Alaska's government is made up of the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches, and you know 2017-01-30 House Journal Page 0128 each needs the others to successfully complete their missions. And while it is normal and valuable to discuss areas of disagreement, may their relationships never be as Private Chris Taylor quoted when he described his platoon saying, "We did not fight our enemy, we fought ourselves, and the enemy wasn't us." Help them to remember that while they may take sides on issues, and at times be necessary adversaries, in the big picture they are all ultimately on one side, the same side, Alaska's side. Eternal God, in all they do, strengthen their desire to daily conform to your image and rely on you in all situations for your holy purposes. It is my sincere desire their day's business be pleasing and honoring to you. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Claman. CERTIFICATION OF THE JOURNAL Representative Tuck moved and asked unanimous consent that the journal for the 11th, 12th, and 13th legislative days be approved as certified by the Chief Clerk.
