Oh God, the Psalmist declares, "The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it." (Psalm 24:1) We thank you, loving and gracious Creator, that of all the amazing places in your extraordinary creation you have placed us in Alaska. For this grand and glorious land we give you thanks. Its shimmering mountains and deep forests, its wind-swept islands and vast seas, its sprawling tundra and breathtaking landscapes - for all of it, oh God, we praise you. We also thank you for the people of this "last frontier." We thank you for the diverse ways you have created us. We live in isolated homesteads, villages, small towns, and cities. Each setting offers unique opportunities and challenges. Help us, oh God, to create safe and prosperous communities for the people of our beloved Alaska. 2014-04-04 Senate Journal Page 2266 As these public servants gather to do the work of our state this day, help them to serve Alaska well. Remind them that they are stewards of an extraordinary place - beautiful and blessed beyond measure. As we so frequently pray, give them wisdom to govern well, grant them joy in their labors, empower them to work together to make Alaska a fair and just place for all. And, oh God, guard their health and well-being. I pray these things in the name of my Lord, Jesus. Amen. Senator Micciche led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance.
