The Senate was called to order at 2:01 p.m. by the Honorable Mead Treadwell, Lieutenant Governor. Colors The following members of the 17th Coast Guard District Color Guard presented the colors: Andrea Lirette, First Class Health Services Technician Ryan Gauger, Second Class Health Services Technician Joshua Candelaria, Second Class Yeoman Cristina Lamboy, Second Class Yeoman Jessica Jewell, Third Class Yeoman Senator Coghill led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. National Anthem Victoria A. Fraser performed the "The Star-Spangled Banner." Senator Coghill moved and asked unanimous consent that nominations for President pro tempore of the Senate be closed. Without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Coghill moved and asked unanimous consent that Senator Stevens be elected President pro tempore. There being no objection, Senator Stevens was elected President pro tempore of the Senate. Lieutenant Governor Treadwell requested Senator Meyer and Senator Stedman escort the President pro tempore to the rostrum. President pro tempore Stevens requested Senator Stedman and Senator Meyer escort the Lieutenant Governor from the chamber. President pro tempore Stevens announced that under provisions of law, AS 24.05.120, the Uniform Rules of the Twelfth Legislature, First Session, as amended in 1985, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1998, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2011 and 2012 will serve as the temporary rules of the current legislature until permanent rules are adopted. 2013-01-15 Senate Journal Page 0006 President President pro tempore Stevens announced that nominations for Senate President were open. Senator Coghill moved and asked unanimous consent that Senator Huggins be nominated President of the Senate for the Twenty-eighth Legislature. Senator Coghill moved and asked unanimous consent that nominations be closed. Without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Coghill moved and asked unanimous consent that Senator Huggins be elected President of the Senate for the Twenty-eighth Legislature. Without objection, Senator Huggins was elected Senate President. President pro tempore Stevens requested Senator McGuire and Senator Kelly to escort President Huggins to the podium. President Huggins announced that the Minority has selected Senator Ellis to serve as Minority Leader for the first session of the Twenty- eighth Legislature. Senator Ellis announced that the Minority has selected Senator French to serve as Minority Leader for the second session of the Twenty-eighth Legislature.
