Representative Drummond had been excused from a call of the House today. Representatives Hawker, Herron, Kawasaki, Stoltze, and Tarr were absent and their presence was noted later. O God, the Psalmist declares, The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it. (Ps 24:1) We thank you, loving and gracious Creator, that of all the amazing places in your extraordinary creation you have placed us in Alaska. For this grand and glorious land we give you thanks. Its shimmering mountains and deep forests, its wind-swept islands and vast seas, its sprawling tundra landscapes - for all of it, O God, we praise you. We also thank you for the people of this "last frontier." We live in isolated homesteads, villages, small towns, and cities. We are extraordinarily diverse and face challenges of all sorts. 2014-03-14 House Journal Page 1908 Help the people of our beloved Alaska to live in safe and prosperous communities. As these women and men of our legislature gather to do the work of our state this day, help them to serve Alaska well. Remind them that they are stewards of an extraordinary place - beautiful and blessed beyond measure. As we so frequently pray, give them wisdom to govern well, grant them joy in their work, empower them to join together to make Alaska a fair and just place for all. And, O God, protect their health and well-being. I pray these things in the name of my Lord, Jesus. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Kreiss-Tomkins.
