Glorious Creator, on this Valentine's Day when the thoughts of many turn to love, I pray for the public servants gathered here whose focus must remain not on love, but on legislation. Keep them, therefore, attentive to their statecraft. But in addition, O God, I pray that they might enjoy the gifts that this day promises. May they be a reminder for them of what is truly important in life - your great gifts of joy, love, compassion, and peace. For ultimately, there need be no contradiction between law and love. Thus, O God, even as those in this chamber prepare for the work before them, allow them also, at day's end, to revel in the rest and renewal that 2014-02-14 House Journal Page 1586 this day of love and the weekend ahead can offer to them and to us all.
