Representative Guttenberg had been excused from a call of the House today. Representative Edgmon was absent and his presence was noted later. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Representative Thompson. Representative T. Wilson moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it was so ordered. The prayer I offer today was the prayer that was provided over the First Territorial Legislature by Father E.H. Brown on March 3, 1913. It is as appropriate today as it was 100 years ago. With the deepest respect for the religious beliefs of all Alaskans, I offer the following prayer: It is meet and just, O God, that here on the threshold of the house of our future greatness, to which we have put our hand to build, that we ask knowledge that Thou art the Chief Builder and Watcher, and without Thee our work is vain. Guide and assist our labor lest a babel of confusion result. Teach us, too, since we have not here a lasting city, to build not for time only but for eternity. 2013-04-10 House Journal Page 1020 We pray Thee, O God of might, wisdom, and justice, through whom authority is rigidly administered, laws are created, and judgment decreed, assist with Thy Holy Spirit of counsel and fortitude the members of the Legislature of Alaska that our work may be conducted in righteousness and be eminently useful to Thy people. Set the light of Thy divine wisdom, direct all our deliberations and shine forth in all the proceedings and laws framed for our rule and government; so that we may tend to the preservation of peace, the promotion of happiness, the increase of industry, sobriety and useful knowledge, and may perpetuate to us the blessings of equal liberty. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative P. Wilson. CERTIFICATION OF THE JOURNAL Representative Pruitt moved and asked unanimous consent that the th journal for the 85 legislative day be approved as certified by the Chief Clerk. There being no objection, it was so ordered.
