Almighty God, Maker of all things, Lord of all, lover of all people, we come before you this morning with grateful hearts, looking for wisdom and ready for guidance. A selection from your Word in Jeremiah I read: "Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches, but let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise loving kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, saith the Lord." (Jeremiah 9:23-24) I desire that all here today would come to know and understand you through Jesus Christ the Lord. We also reflect with gratitude on those who went before us, leaving us a legacy of order, freedom and hope. 2012-04-19 Senate Journal Page 2416 We enjoy this beautiful land of oceans, lakes and rivers; mountains, valleys and canyons; of forests, tundra and fields. We serve a people of great cultures and diverse economies with a stewardship we all want to manage well. It is now our turn to handle this legacy for those who will follow us in this policy arena. So as each one of us stands totally open before your Just and Merciful view, please help us in our duty to you and our generation to do our work with grace and wisdom, honoring this institution, our people, and each other today.
