Senators Davis, Huggins were excused from a call of the Senate. Senators French, Thomas, Wagoner were absent. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Rabbi Dov Gartenberg of Congregation Sukkat Shalom. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. A Prayer for Tolerance Teach us, God, to treasure the differences that distinguish one person from another. Fill us with the strength to overcome senseless fear and hatred. Open our hearts to the radiance that shines forth from every human soul. Inspire us to shed our apathy; remind us that it is our obligation to be responsible for one another. Open our ears to the cries of all who are in need of our assistance. Give us the courage to combat prejudice and intolerance wherever they exist. Teach us to see each other through your eyes, God. Senator Meyer moved and asked unanimous consent that the bill be considered engrossed, advanced to third reading and placed on final passage. Without objection, it was so ordered. Without objection, the Senate recessed at 9:55 a.m. After Recess Joint Session in the House Speaker Chenault called the House to order and in accordance with Uniform Rule 51 turned the gavel over to President Stevens, who called the Joint Session to order at 10:02 a.m. 2012-02-23 Senate Journal Page 1615 The purpose of the Joint Session was to hear an address by the Honorable Lisa Murkowski, U.S. Senator. Senator Meyer moved and asked unanimous consent that the roll call of the Senate be waived and all members be shown as present. Without objection, it was so ordered. Representative Austerman moved and asked unanimous consent that the roll call of the House be waived and all members be shown as present. Without objection, it was so ordered. President Stevens appointed Representative Fairclough and Senator Stedman to escort Senator Murkowski to the Joint Session. The Senate Sergeant at Arms, Zachary Mannix, announced Senator Murkowski's entrance to the House Chamber. The Honorable Lisa Murkowski was escorted to the rostrum and welcomed by President Stevens. Senator Lisa Murkowski delivered her address. This address appears in House and Senate Joint Journal Supplement No. 12. Following her address, there was a question and answer period. Senator Murkowski received a standing ovation and was escorted from the chamber by Senator Stedman and Representative Fairclough. Senator Meyer moved and asked unanimous consent that the Joint Session stand in adjournment.
