Full Journal pdf2011-02-21 Senate Journal Page 0311 SENATE JOURNAL ALASKA STATE LEGISLATURE TWENTY-SEVENTH LEGISLATURE FIRST SESSION Juneau, Alaska Monday February 21, 2011 Thirty-fifth Day Pursuant to adjournment the Senate was called to order by President Stevens at 11:01 a.m. The roll showed eighteen members present. Senator Huggins was excused from a call of the Senate. Senator McGuire was absent. Senator Meyer moved and asked unanimous consent that Senator McGuire be excused from a call of the Senate today to evening plane time. Without objection, Senator McGuire was excused. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, The Reverend Dr. Douglas Dye of Chapel by the Lake. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Gracious and loving God, we thank you for the great blessings you have bestowed on our nation and on Alaska. You have endowed us with abundant resources to provide for all our earthly needs; you have created a landscape so beautiful that we are awed by your creative majesty; you have blessed us with a history of courageous women and men whose leadership has provided a large degree of justice and peace. We ask you, dear Lord, that you would now give wisdom and grace to these faithful servants so that the people of our great state would continue to experience peace and prosperity in the days ahead. Guide these senators, as they face difficult challenges and hard choices, to work together for the common good of all. Dear Lord, on this Presidents' Day - we 2011-02-21 Senate Journal Page 0312 are particularly mindful of the rich heritage of wise leaders who have gone before us. We remember the words of one of your faithful servants and one of our most courageous presidents, Abraham Lincoln. And we pray the timeless words he spoke to America at his Second Inauguration: "With malice toward none; with charity for all; with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in… [and] to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves, and with all nations." These things I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. Senator Stedman led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Certification Senator Meyer moved and asked unanimous consent that the journals for the thirtieth through thirty-fourth legislative days be approved as certified by the Secretary.
