Loving and gracious God, I thank you for the lives and service of these public servants. In the Hebrew Bible the Psalmist declares, You, O God, have crowned human beings with glory and honor, and you have made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet. (Psalm 8) Dear God, thank you for giving us the high and honorable duty of ruling and caring for your creation. Help these 2012-02-24 House Journal Page 1682 women and men, whom you have called to lead us through the voice of the Alaskan people, to govern well. Endow them with compassion, creativity, and wisdom so Alaska may know justice and prosperity. May they work well together as they strive to find common ground over difficult issues. Guard their health, dear God. In the midst of the hard work before them, grant them moments of laughter and a deep sense of the joy of living. Bless their families as they spend long days apart from those they love. Bless their comings and goings and grant them traveling mercies as they commute between home and the capital. O Lord, at the end of each day give them sweet rest and renewal, knowing they have honored you by serving Alaska and its people well. I pray these things in the name of my Lord, Jesus. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Johansen.
