Representatives Doogan, Johansen, and Millett had been excused from a call of the House today. Representative Seaton was absent and his presence was noted later. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, the Reverend George Silides of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Representative P. Wilson moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it was so ordered. With deepest respect for the religious traditions of all Alaskans, I offer this prayer: Almighty God, who has called all things into being and governs all creation through thy mighty power, we thank you for the riches of this great land - of earth and sky and sea. We thank you for the blessings of our life, for the privilege it is to live and work and serve the common good in the midst of such natural abundance. Help each of us to remain faithful stewards of this great bounty for the material and spiritual benefit of all. We pray thy blessing upon the men and women of this house, upon their staff, and upon all who aid them in the just governance of this state. Upon them is placed great 2012-02-06 House Journal Page 1508 responsibility. Send them wise counsel, diligent and faithful aides, common ground across divides of politics, culture, and region to accomplish the great good they are called to do; remembering always that the greatest wealth of this land is the imagination and perseverance of its people. So as we are drawn to seek your blessing and guidance in great things for the many, help us also to seek you for the relief of our personal needs: the health and welfare of our families at home, the well-being of our sons and daughters overseas, unencumbered peace of mind with which to consider the issues of our day. Help us now as we gather here to have sharp eyes, keen ears, and open minds to the blessings you would have us receive, through the work of this house and by thy grace. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Gardner.
