As we pause to pray, let us remember our brothers and sisters in Japan who are suffering so much. A reading from the book of Daniel (12:3): "But the wise shine brightly like the splendor of the firmament; and those who lead the many to justice shall be like the stars forever." Let us pray: Creator of the Universe, you established the universal order, and the human family as well, to be your co-workers. You who gave human beings their intelligence and creativity, offer your light to those who lead and govern. You know how hard 2011-03-16 House Journal Page 0478 is the task of legislators, to be always watchful, just and humane, moderate, compassionate and caring. We commend to you the members of this House. They seek your guidance and help. Grant them, O God, your love and your benevolence; make them sensitive and attuned to your will. May our legislators become instruments of justice and freedom and true sowers of goodness in their work. Kindle in them the will to serve; fortify their capacity for self-sacrifice. Teach them to recognize and embrace just causes and to defend those causes in their wisdom. Lord God, you are the guardian of liberties and the teacher of grand ideals and fellowship; bless our legislators and protect them; sustain them with the light and perfect peace which you alone can give. Yours be the glory and praise, now and forever. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Millett.
