Gracious and loving God, thank you for the gift of this day. As the Psalmist prayed in the Hebrew Scriptures, "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." (Psalm 90:12) Remind us, dear Lord, that we live by your grace-so that we might live in a spirit of joy and gratitude for all the blessings of this day; for the routine and ordinary events as well as those unplanned and surprising developments. 2011-03-09 House Journal Page 0398 O God, teach us to number our days so that your servants in this House of Representatives might lead our state with wisdom and compassion. Grant them the ability to measure fairly and wisely the complicated and often competing perspectives before them. Give them strength and clear thinking to make decisions that will bring justice and prosperity to the people of this good land. Loving God, give to these men and women satisfaction in the work they do. Thank you for the effort and sacrifices they make to serve Alaska. Guard their health that they might serve with vigor and imagination. Watch over their families, as many of them are separated from loved ones for long periods of time. Thank you for the leadership these representatives provide us. So dear Father in Heaven on this day-the day on which many in the Christian tradition enter the season of Lent and look forward to new life at Easter-help us to number our days so we gain wisdom and a renewed love for life, so we can serve others well. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Joule.
