The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, The Reverend Murray Richmond. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. O Lord our God, We are gathered here today for different reasons. We who are gathered here today have different interests, different skills, different ways of understanding the world we live in. We who are gathered here today come from very different places, and have different backgrounds. We are male and female, old and young, liberal and conservative. As we gather here today, O Lord, we could focus on those differences, and we could make them the centerpiece of our work. But we are also gathered here today for a common purpose - to serve. We are here to serve the best interests of the people of our state. We are here to serve those who entrusted us with our position. We are here to serve you by serving others. 2010-02-24 Senate Journal Page 1632 Help us O Lord, to be faithful to who we are. You made us in your image, and you made us all different. And yet, help us to be faithful to our common task. Lord, I pray for Senators sitting in this chamber today, and for their work. But I also pray for those who support their work. I pray for the aides, the support staff, the others who make it possible for this body to function. Bless these legislators in their work, and bless all those who stand behind them. May we all come together, bringing our differences, to ensure the common good of our state. Amen. Senator Olson led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance.
