Representatives Harris and Stoltze had been excused from a call of the House today. Representative Hawker was absent. Representative Johansen moved and asked unanimous consent that Representative Johnson be excused from a call of the House from today to morning plane time, February 21. There being no objection, it was so ordered. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, the Reverend Doctor Douglas Dye of Chapel by the Lake Presbyterian Church. Representative P. Wilson moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it was so ordered. I am grateful for the opportunity to pray for you and with the Alaska State House of Representatives. With the deepest respect for the religious traditions of all Alaskans, I offer this prayer for your blessing and benefit. Dear God, my Heavenly Father, We come to you this day thankful for the gift of life and the way you have led us to serve the people of Alaska. 2010-02-15 House Journal Page 1486 We gladly recognize that you are the creator, and we joyfully thank you for the gift of living in this great and beautiful land. We offer to you our deep gratitude for placing us in a land of such magnificent splendor and abundant resources. On this President's Day, O Lord, we offer you our deepest gratitude for the service and commitment of the men who have served in the highest elected office in our nation. We pray for our current president that you would grant him wisdom, courage, and grace. Dear Father in heaven, we thank you for visionary and faithful Alaskans who have brought justice and fairness to our great state. We especially think of Elizabeth Peratrovich whose life and contributions to the State of Alaska we will celebrate tomorrow. Bless her memory, bless her work, and use her courage and convictions to shape a righteous future for all of us. O God, I pray you will bless these men and women. May they do their work in a spirit of wisdom and kindness and justice. Grant them the ability - in the midst of the many competing claims they encounter - to discern the good and the right. Fill them with patience and courage to follow paths that will bless our people. Help them to use their authority to serve faithfully and to promote the well being of all Alaskans. Please give to them joy and satisfaction in the work they do this day. I pray these things in your most holy name. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Gatto.
