Representatives Edgmon and Salmon had been excused from a call of the House today. The presence of Representative Salmon was noted later. Representative Ramras was absent and his presence was noted later. Representative Johansen moved and asked unanimous consent that Representative Dahlstrom be excused from a call of the House today. There being no objection, it was so ordered. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Kayla Epstein of Congregation Sukkat Shalom. Representative Wilson moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it was so ordered. With the deepest respect for the religious beliefs of all Alaskans, I offer the following prayer. The House Secretary's office often invites the Jewish Community to give the invocation the week of Passover. It was in this week in 1991 that I gave my first invocation, and I've been invited back many Passovers since, but I never spoke about its meaning or many effects. Passover comes from the epic story of the Jewish bondage in Egypt and how we were wrestled away from Pharaoh by Moses. The deprivation and humiliation of slavery 2009-04-06 House Journal Page 0738 encouraged the perspectives on justice and sense of humanity that still exists today. It is what allowed Anne Frank to write: I can feel the suffering of millions and yet, if I look up into the heavens, I think that it will all come right, that this cruelty too will end, and that peace and tranquility will return again. In the meantime, I must uphold my ideals, for perhaps the time will come when I shall be able to carry them out. Exodus helped develop laws that state that no one shall treat a stranger less justly than those we love and that those with less than us should be treated with dignity. You who created order and law, may I wish for all the liberties I cherish for myself. Teach me to be sensible, to see that I cannot be free by myself, for my life is part of a greater life. The life of humanity, formed to be free. Blessed is God from whom all blessings flow. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Millett. CERTIFICATION OF THE JOURNAL Representative Johansen moved and asked unanimous consent that the ththth journal for the 74, 75, and 76 legislative days be approved as certified by the Chief Clerk. There being no objection, it was so ordered.
