Senator Davis was excused from a call of the Senate. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Jim Hardenbrook of the Nampa Church of the Brethren. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers - the moon and the stars you have set in place - Who are we that you should think of us, mere humans that you should care for us? Psalm 8:3-4 I call upon You, gracious God, for a great outpouring of Your grace upon our land - upon our divided nation. On this National Day of Prayer we need to hear the agonizing words of President Lincoln who, when calling the Union to a "national day of prayer, fasting and humiliation" wrote, "perhaps this awful war has visited us because we have become too proud to pray." Humble the proud and the arrogant. Forgive and purge sin from our lives. Convict our faith communities of hypocrisy and materialism. 2007-05-03 Senate Journal Page 1038 Remind us we are servants, very dependent on loved ones, on each other and especially on You, dear God - the One who not only put the stars and moon in place but the One who gives us the air we breathe. I thank you for these people in whom the people of Alaska have placed their trust. Give them a productive floor session. Amen. Senator Elton led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Certification Senator Stevens moved and asked unanimous consent that the journal for the one hundred seventh legislative day be approved as certified by the Secretary.
