MESSAGES FROM THE GOVERNOR HJR 29 A message dated July 23, 2008, was received stating the Governor read the following resolution and is transmitting the engrossed and enrolled copies to the Lieutenant Governor's office for permanent filing: HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 29 Urging the President of the United States and the United States Congress to fulfill the federal obligation to provide adequate funding for special education in public schools. Legislative Resolve No. 38 HJR 31 A message dated July 23, 2008, was received stating the Governor read the following resolution and is transmitting the engrossed and enrolled copies to the Lieutenant Governor's office for permanent filing: 2008-07-24 House Journal Page 3272 CS FOR HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 31(RES) Opposing the enactment of the Protect America's Wildlife Act of 2007 that intends to prohibit aerial hunting of wildlife, which is essential for predator control in Alaska. Legislative Resolve No. 70 HJR 32 A message dated July 23, 2008, was received stating the Governor read the following resolution and is transmitting the engrossed and enrolled copies to the Lieutenant Governor's office for permanent filing: HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 32 Supporting open and free competition within the broadcasting industry. Legislative Resolve No. 44 HJR 34 A message dated July 23, 2008, was received stating the Governor read the following resolution and is transmitting the engrossed and enrolled copies to the Lieutenant Governor's office for permanent filing: HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 34 Urging the United States Congress to reauthorize the Debbie Smith DNA backlog grant program. Legislative Resolve No. 39 HB 75 A message dated July 23, 2008, was received stating the Governor signed the following bill and is transmitting the engrossed and enrolled copies to the Lieutenant Governor's office for permanent filing: CS FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 75(STA) "An Act relating to driver's licenses and to alcohol and drug awareness and safety testing." Chapter No. 117, SLA 2008 Effective Date: October 21, 2008 SJR 11 A message dated July 23, 2008, was received stating the Governor read the following resolution and is transmitting the engrossed and enrolled copies to the Lieutenant Governor's office for permanent filing: SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 11 Supporting federal funding for veterans' health care and urging the United States Congress to ensure adequate funding for veterans' health care. Legislative Resolve No. 32 SJR 12 A message dated July 23, 2008, was received stating the Governor read the following resolution and is transmitting the engrossed and enrolled copies to the Lieutenant Governor's office for permanent filing: CS FOR SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 12(STA) Requesting that Alaska be exempt from changes to the interpretation of the Passenger Vessel Services Act of June 19, 1886, proposed by the United States Department of Homeland Security, Bureau of Customs and Border Protection, affecting cruise itineraries of foreign-flagged vessels transporting passengers to ports in Alaska; or, if Alaska is not exempted, opposing the proposed changes to the interpretation of that Act. Legislative Resolve No. 34 2008-07-24 House Journal Page 3274 SJR 17 A message dated July 23, 2008, was received stating the Governor read the following resolution and is transmitting the engrossed and enrolled copies to the Lieutenant Governor's office for permanent filing: SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 17 Urging the United States Congress to provide a means for consistently sharing, on an ongoing basis, revenue generated from oil and gas development on the outer continental shelf with all coastal energy-producing states to ensure that those states develop, support, and maintain necessary infrastructure and preserve environmental integrity.
