Representative Holmes had been excused from a call of the House today. Representative Nelson was absent and her presence was noted later. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, the Reverend Matt Johnson of Greatland Bible Ministries. Representative Coghill moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it was so ordered. With deepest respect for Alaskans of all faiths, I offer this prayer. O Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth or ever you had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God. But the days of our lives are like the grass that springs up and then withers away and dies. So teach us to number our days that we may obtain a heart of wisdom. Indeed, we are poor players who strut and fret our hour upon the stage, swinging between the polarities of pride and fear. Do not leave us to our own devices and desires. Help us to discern between ephemeral exigencies and eternal verities. Give us to follow your son, Jesus, in a pattern of substituted 2008-04-06 House Journal Page 2666 love, exchanging our own self-interest for the good of others. Help us to see the great gulf fixed between the sunken pride of this world and the towering humilities of heaven. Grant us the grace to realize the profundity of our act upon this stage of history, and renovate our affections that we may act worthy of ourselves and those we represent. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative LeDoux. CERTIFICATION OF THE JOURNAL Representative Samuels moved and asked unanimous consent that the nd journal for the 82 legislative day be approved as certified by the Chief Clerk. There being no objection, it was so ordered.
